Root canal treatments are needed when the tooth segment containing pulp tissues, nerves, and blood vessels are infected or have suffered trauma, causing the nerve to die. When the tooth's root canal becomes inflamed from bacteria seeping inside, you may need a root canal treatment (RCT) to treat the issue and get your tooth back into good condition.

What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment, also called endodontic therapy, is the dental process of removing tooth decay from within the tooth's canals. The procedure works by creating a small hole in the tooth to remove all of the infected areas. The inflamed pulp is removed, along with the tooth roots. The absence of tooth roots is not essential as they only serve to experience cold and hot sensations and for the tooth to grow. Once the tooth has fully matured, removing the roots will not affect it. However, removing it can check the further spread of infection. So when it is necessary to remove the roots, we do it immediately. Once done, we will meticulously clean the area to ensure that the condition is gone. We will then prescribe antibiotics to ensure any remaining infection is eliminated.
To complete the root canal treatment, we will pack up the hole with a unique material called gutta-percha. This is a rubber-like substance that helps to stabilize the tooth. The treated tooth is further strengthened with a restoration such as a crown to protect it from future damage.
