Invisalign in Chicago,IL

Malocclusion or misalignment of the teeth is a common concern among individuals of all age groups. Misaligned teeth can completely ruin one’s smile and take away their self-confidence. Imagine having to attend a social gathering with crooked teeth, and worse, someone mocking you for them. It’s truly a nightmare no one should have to go through.
Invisalign is one of the most technologically advanced orthodontic aligners in today’s world. For several years now, dental braces have been the go-to solution to treat malocclusion. But, they pose several drawbacks that brought up a need for a better orthodontic aligner. This way, Invisalign was introduced as an aesthetically-pleasing alternative to dental braces.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a dental aligner made from a tooth-colored plastic material. The unique feature of Invisalign is that it is virtually invisible as it is made from a transparent material. When you wear it, it is hardly noticeable even when you smile or talk. However, upon close observation, it would be visible.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

  • Speaking in terms of appearance, Invisalign is one of the best orthodontic aligners out there. Almost all other alternatives are quite apparent when patients have them on.
  • The aligners apply pressure on the teeth in a controlled manner. This makes the treatment almost painless and quite comfortable.
  • Invisalign is metal-free.
  • The aligners do not contain any sharp edges or brackets that could injure the soft tissues of the mouth.
  • You wouldn’t have to compromise on your food habits, such as in the case of dental braces.
  • You need not visit the dentist too often for follow-up consultations.
  • Most importantly, Invisalign is removable. They can be taken off when you eat, drink, or brush your teeth. They wouldn’t interfere with your daily routine.

Using Invisalign

The way to use Invisalign is quite different from that of dental braces. Initially, the dentist would diagnose your condition and take molds of your teeth to fabricate the aligners. Based on the severity of malocclusion, a customized treatment plan is set up with a certain number of aligners for each treatment stage. Once fabricated, the dentist would give you the first set of aligners and talk to you about their usage.
Invisalign has to be worn for at least 22 hours each day for the teeth to be moved to their orthodontically right positions. You should take them off only when you have to eat food or clean your teeth. Before putting them back on, ensure to remove the food debris from the teeth as they could affect the treatment procedure. The dentist would give you a new set of aligners once every two weeks. They would be slightly different from the previous set to accommodate for a change in the movement of the teeth. The treatment period could last between 6 months to a couple of years based on the severity of the malocclusion.
