The root canal is the central cavity of a tooth that contains the dental pulp. The pulp is responsible for providing sensation and nutrition to the tooth, making it an essential part of the tooth. The microbes in the mouth could infect the dental pulp by entering the root canal cavity, leading to a severe infection that puts the entire tooth at the risk of being extracted.
The dentist will conduct a visual diagnosis during the initial visit to the practice. X-rays and scans of the mouth may be taken to determine the extent of the infection, after which the dentist will evaluate your candidacy for the therapy. The teeth will be cleaned thoroughly and prepared for the procedure by placing a rubber dam to isolate the infected tooth.
With the help of high-precision dental devices, a small access hole is made on the tooth, and dental files of varying sizes are inserted into it to remove the infected pulp. Then the walls of the cavity are scrubbed thoroughly, and the removed debris is washed away using a jet of water. The dentist will also place the antibiotic medication in the cavity and seal it using filling material, as the tooth could be weak after the procedure, making it crack or break under extreme forces, such as while biting something hard or sustaining a strong blow to the mouth. Hence, we suggest you get the tooth restored using a ceramic crown to keep it intact.
